How was your Valentine's Day? Mine was smokin -- literally. I nearly caught my kitchen on fire while cooking filet mignon. I've made this recipe a number of times before, with no problem, but for some reason this time I wasn't so lucky. Jonathan and I had decided to make dinner instead of dealing with crowded restaurants and inflated prices. He was taking care of the side dishes, and I was preparing to cook up my filets. I heated up the pan, and when I put the oil in the pan it burst into flames. He and I started freaking out, trying to figure out what to do. He shouted at me to get the fire extinguisher, and I went to retreive it from the closet. My dumb ass still had it in the box, so he was watching the flames lick the oven hood as I tried to rip the box open. Fortunately the oil burned off and the fire died, and nothing else caught on fire.

He and were both rather shaken afterwards, and I was pretty upset, and mad at myself. The rest of the evening I alternated between breaking into tears and laughing about it. He told me that next year he's going to have to buy me a Valentine's Day Card with flames on it. Then, when we finally sat down to eat (fortunately we didn't ruin our food with the fire extinguisher, and the filets weren't yet in the pan) he went to turn on some music, and we joked about the radio playing "Light My Fire" or "The Roof is on Fire." And of course we followed that up with jokes about how he's my "main flame," and how "the sparks were flying," and the evening was "heating up," and so on and so forth. Did I ever tell you how much of a couple of dorks we are?
